Be-You-Tiful Birmingham’s Vision

By offering a chance for people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities to star as models in a one-of-a-kind fashion show, we hope to: change the face of beauty in the Magic City, promote inclusion, awareness and acceptance, build poise, confidence and self-determination.

THE ARC OF CENTRAL ALABAMA’S VISION:

As the largest provider of services in the state of Alabama to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, The Arc’s vision is for people with I/DD to be able to live the lives they choose as valued, contributing, and equal members of their community.

Our fashion show started with Valerie’s dream to rock the runway. Now we need YOU to help our 2019 Be-You-Tiful Models’ dreams come true. Plus, you’ll get 50% off all merch and brunch on us!

2019 Models

Alayna

Alayna

Alayna is a student at Meadow View Elementary. She is an athletic girl who loves playing softball with the Field of Angels, and she loves to sing with her church choir and aspires to sing a solo. Alayna’s biggest accomplishment so far is being a big sister to her baby brother Kamden. She loves to present and read to her class at school and dreams of being a teacher when she grows up.

Allie

Allie is very active in Diamond Dolls, YoungLife, Hoover High Pep Club, choir, and dance. Her greatest accomplishment so far was winning the Kindest Student at Hoover High School award. She dreams of working as a hostess and going to college and has been visiting schools like Auburn, Mississippi State, and Clemson. One day, she wants to take care of her own family and her parents as they get older.

Allison

Allison

Allison is in 4th grade at Thompson Intermediate School. She’s an excellent reader, loves to take dance classes and participate in the Special Olympics, and is a member of the Spirit Squad. Her greatest accomplishment is learning to be a skilled horseback rider and, as of this year, she has also begun to learn to ride a bicycle. Allison dreams of making people smile and entertaining – she will perform on stage for any audience AS MUCH AS possible!

Andrew and Anthony

Andrew & Anthony

Anthony, 29, stays active in his community and outdoors, often with his twin, Drew. Anthony loves his volunteer time outdoors with the Homewood Community Garden, and is crazy about dogs and cats. These guys are blessed to be best friends!

Ashlyn

Ashlyn

Ashlyn is currently enrolled at McAdory Elementary School. She loves to dance, watch movies, swim, interact and meet new people, take photos, and sing. Ashlyn’s greatest accomplishment so far is excelling in her scholastic achievements. She has overcome her shyness and is working hard to accomplish her IEP and regular peer goals. When she grows up she would like to be a doctor or a dentist.

Chandler

Chandler is currently enrolled at Homewood Middle School. He is a man of many interests including cooking and baking, dogs and animals, music and guitar, and karate. When Chandler grows up, he dreams of getting married and being a successful businessman.

Emma Grace

Emma Grace

Emma Grace is a student at Magnolia Elementary. She loves loves dance, softball, singing, cheer, and dress-up. Her greatest accomplishment so far is learning to swim. Emma Grace’s goals for herself are going to college and becoming more and more independent. Emma Grace never meets a stranger and is a social butterfly!

Grace

Grace is a high school student at VHHS. She is a basketball cheerleader and also loves to dance, tumble, go to Bible study, sing in the choir at church, and go to Capernuam (a YoungLife camp for kids with special needs). Her greatest accomplishments were winning Miss Amazing Junior Teen in the Miss Amazing Pageant in 2017 and being on the homecoming court TWICE. Grace’s dreams include going to college and eventually getting married and living independently.

Haley

Haley

Haley is a SENIOR at Oak Mountain High School this year. She loves to dance, cheer, and make jewelry. Haley’s greatest achievement so far is being the JV Cheer Manager and being a part of the Sparkle Winter Guard – the ONLY Winter Guard in the state with peers with special needs. Haley dreams of one day becoming a professional dancer or a jewelry designer.

Isaiah

Isaiah is currently home-schooled and loves roller-skating, biking, soccer, and video games. Isaiah is a very upbeat young man who always has a smile and a hug who anyone who needs it. His biggest accomplishments so far are being featured in a documentary for Children’s Harbor and being an ambassador for Children’s Hospital. When he’s older, Isaiah dreams of creating and designing shoes for a living.

Katie

Katie

Katie is currently enrolled at Oak Mountain Intermediate School. She loves playing with her toys, computer, iPad, walking on the treadmill, and telling stories. Katie’s greatest accomplishment so far is winning Special Olympics medals and having lots of friends! She dreams of being a fashion model and working with animals (including unicorns).

Kelsey

Kelsy

Kelsy loves the show Glee, John Lloyd Young, Jersey Boys, Auburn sports, dancing and singing, shoes, and going on family trips to the beach, mountains and New Orleans. Her greatest accomplishment so far was being the manager of high school girls basketball team. Kelsy dreams of flying to Paris and Ireland, as well as getting married and having her own home and work.

Kenny

Kenny

Kenny is a participant in The Arc’s Adult Day Program and lives at home with his family. He loves hanging out with friends, playing video games, watching movies, and traveling! He’s a people person who can make anyone smile. His greatest accomplishment is graduating high school. He dreams of having a job in the community one day!

Lauryn

Lauryn

Lauryn is in 5th Grade at West Blocton Middle School. She loves playing with her twin sister Layla, reading, TV, arts and crafts, bible study, Special Olympics, roller skating, bicycling, swimming, dancing, and all things family! Lauryn’s greatest accomplishments so far have been being an “A” Honor Roll student at WBMS, developing her own voice, and defining her own independence. Her goal is to be successful in completing the pieces of her own puzzle.

Lindley

Lindley

Lindley is currently enrolled at South Shades Crest Elementary School. She enjoys dancing, softball, and swimming. Lindley has a heart for babies and small animals. She’s always happy and can find humor in any situation. Her greatest accomplishment so far is working through her hearing and speech challenges without fear or hesitation. Lindley loves to take care of others and would like to be a teacher when she grows up.

Mallory

Mallory is a graduate of Thompson High School. She loves ANYTHING Disney, most any movie, the Power Rangers, cats, and drawing. One of Mallory’s greatest accomplishments is competing in the 2006 National Special Olympics where she won one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals! Mallory’s goals for herself are to go to Disney World as often as possible!

Michael

Michael is currently enrolled at Hueytown Middle School. He loves baseball, basketball, dancing, and singing. His greatest accomplishment so far is singing a song in front of his church, making the A-B honor roll, and being student of the month! When Michael grows up, he wants to be a truck driver!

Molly

Molly

Molly is currently enrolled at Bragg Middle School. She loves playing baseball at Miracle League, dancing, swimming, and going to the beach. Molly also loves her rescue dogs Bailey and Brody and her neighbors’ dogs Cocoa and Champ more than anything! Her greatest accomplishment so far is being crowned Miss Junior Alabama Amazing and competing at Nationals in Chicago! She dreams of one day dancing professionally.

Rachel

Rachel

Rachel is currently enrolled at Hueytown High School. When she’s not at school, she stays busy with fishing, four-wheeling, drawing, softball, church drama team, cooking, basketball, and volleyball. Rachel’s greatest accomplishment so far is making the A/B honor roll and staying on it! A very independent person, she dreams of getting her driver’s license so she can drive a two-door Jeep like her brother.

Rosemary

Rosemary

Rosemary is a participant in The Arc’s Residential Program, and goes to United Ability during the day. Rose loves her housemates and their staff, especially her House Manager Ms. Valerie, who takes the ladies on fun outings and vacations! Rose loves art, makeup, and dressing up. She loves fragrance and loves to smell good! She dreams of going to Paris to model.

Sean

Sean is a participant in The Arc’s pre-vocational Adult Day Program. He loves to dance, run, and look through books like the dictionary. His greatest accomplishment was graduating from Mountain Brook High School. He dreams of competing as a runner in the Special Olympics and winning a Special Olympics event!

Tori

Tori

Tori is a student in the Everest Academy home school program. She is an accomplished equestrian who loves horseback riding at The Red Barn, choir and mission trips at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, and lake time at Logan Martin Lake.

Valerie

Valerie

Valerie is a participant in both The Arc’s Adult Day Program and Residential Program. Ms. Val, as she’s known at The Arc, loves painting, art, and drawing. She is also very outgoing and loves to meet new people.One of her greatest accomplishments so far is being a model in the Be-You-Tiful Birmingham Fashion Show! Valerie dreams of going to Disney World and on on a cruise.

Be a Model

Models must be ages 7 and up, and be diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability.

HEADSHOT PHOTO SHOOT
10-minute sittings on:
Friday, April 5th, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.*
The photographer suggests solid color tops and avoiding white.
There will not be hair and makeup at the shoot, so please arrive ready.
*Sign-ups for headshots will be completed at the March 14th Parent Informational Meeting.
