Be-You-Tiful Birmingham’s Vision

By offering a chance for people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities to star as models in a one-of-a-kind fashion show, we hope to: change the face of beauty in the Magic City promote inclusion, awareness and acceptance, build poise, confidence and self-determination.


As the largest provider of services in the state of Alabama to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, The Arc’s vision is for people with I/DD to be able to live the lives they choose as valued, contributing, and equal members of their community.

2018 Models


Allie is 15 years old and attends Hoover High School. She enjoys dancing, knitting, singing and hanging out with her friends. She is also involved in Young Life, choir, Key Club, and attends summer camps. Allie has many great accomplishments, from receiving medals in Special Olympics to being a member of the SMS Dance Team. She even is a previous recipient of the Hand in Paw Excellence Award. Allie dreams of being the hostess with the mostest and says everyday is “the best day ever!”


Allison is in 3rd grade at Meadow View Elementary. This 10 year old is a very confident young lady. She never meets a stranger and loves all people, especially babies. Allison has developed many strong friendships and likes to be in the limelight. She enjoys cheerleading, choir, dance, and Special Olympics. She dreams of one day playing football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Allie says her greatest accomplishment is being a horseback rider!


Ashlyn is 7 years old and attends McAdory Elementary. She enjoys swimming, dancing, reading, writing, and coloring. Ashlyn’s greatest accomplishment is overcoming the obstacles she faced after having acute cerebellar ataxia which caused developmental delays. Ashlyn loves interacting with people and offering them help whenever they need it.


Baylor is 8 years old and attends Gwin Elementary. He loves football, reading, movies and video games. One of Baylor’s favorite activities is taking trips to the beach. One of his greatest accomplishments is being a helper to his younger brother and sister. He dreams of becoming a teacher and dad.


Belinda is 43, and is a part of The Arc’s residential program. She loves her job as a greeter at Belk and making her own money. Her greatest accomplishment was marrying her best friend. Her coworkers at Belk threw her a shower! Belinda has big dreams for learning to become even more independent.


Beth is 30 years old and has been an employee of Edgar’s Bakery for over 12 years! She enjoys playing the guitar and taking art classes. Several of her artworks have been featured on Down Syndrome Alabama’s mailings. She serves DSA as a member of their Self-Advocates Board, planning and hosting monthly activities for their CHAMPS self-advocates group. Beth especially loves spending time with her boyfriend Matthew, singing karaoke!


Edmond is a student at Clay Chalkville Middle School. This 14 year old enjoys playing video games, talking, shopping, sports…and did we mention shopping? He is constantly meeting new friends wherever he goes! Edmond’s greatest accomplishment is overcoming all odds.


Haley is 18 and attends Oak Mountain High School. She has served as the Cheer Manager for Oak Mountain JV Cheer squad for the last two years. Haley enjoys movies, going to the spa and spending
time with her friends and family. Her other interests are dance, art, photography and choir. Haley dreams of becoming a jewelry designer!


Isaiah is a 10 year old who loves soccer and playing Minecraft. Some of his greatest traits are that he is so generous and is always smiling. His greatest accomplishment was being featured in a documentary at Children’s Harbor, where he receives tutoring. Isaiah dreams of becoming a scientist!


Kelsy is 31 and a 2006 graduate of Thompson High School. She was the manager for the Thompson High School Girl’s Basket Ball Team. But, basketball isn’t the only sport she enjoys. Kelsy is a big Auburn Football fan and has been to 4 Sugar Bowls! She is very outgoing and loves people. Kelsy’s dream came true this summer when she got to meet her favorite actor, John Lloyd Young who plays Frankie Valli on Broadway!


Lauren attends Pizitz Middle School. She is 13 years old and enjoys many activities like dancing and swimming. Her greatest accomplishment is creating incredible friendships throughout her life. Lauren dreams of one day becoming a teacher.


Lauryn is 9 years old and is an Honor Roll student at Woodstock Elementary. She loves playing with her twin sister, and she has a smile that everyone wants to be around. Lauryn enjoys art, music, dance, TopSoccer, go karts and everything ipad! She also participates in Special Olympics every year. She dreams of being successful and completing her puzzle. Her greatest accomplishments are reading the Children’s Bible with family and being able to verbalize her needs and wants while owning her independence.


Mallory is a 26 year old graduate of Thompson High School. Mallory competed in the 2006 National Special Olympics in gymnastics and won 5 medals- 1 bronze, 3 silver and 1 gold! She remains active in local Special Olympics Bowling. She loves all things Disney and Power Rangers, in fact, her dream is to be the Pink Power Ranger!


Michael is 10 and is an Honor Roll student at Hueytown Elementary. He loves baseball and enjoys dancing and puppet ministry! Michael’s greatest accomplishment is giving his life to Christ. He dreams of finishing school, learning to drive, and going to college.


Molly is 13 and attends Bragg Middle School. She was crowned Miss Alabama Amazing 2017 and competed at nationals in Chicago! She loves to introduce everyone to her family, and she gives the best hugs. Molly enjoys playing baseball at Miracle League and participating in beauty pageants. She wants to one day be a car driver and do more and more things without mom.


Preslee is in 3rd grade at Paine Elementary. She was the cover girl for Birmingham Parent Magazine when she was 2. Now that this is her second fashion show, she and her friends think she is a celebrity. Preslee’s best friend and biggest fan is her little sister, Piper. Preslee thrives in a full inclusion setting at school and in extracurricular activities such as her 7th year of dance. She is also the only child in her dance class with special needs. Preslee wants to follow in her mommy’s footsteps and become a nurse.


Sarah is 7 years old and in first grade. She is home schooled through Faith Community Christian School. One of Sarah’s favorite things to do is dance! Sarah’s greatest accomplishment is her3 years of Dance taken at Miss Kelley’s School of Dance.


Sydney is 9 and attends McAdory Elementary. She loves singing, dancing and dressing up. Sydney also enjoys being a cheerleader, and she is a technology wiz! Her two favorite things are riding in an airplane and going to Disney World. Sydney’s ultimate goal is to give her absolute best to society.


Valerie is 55, and a part of the Adult Day Program and Residential Program at The Arc. Her hobbies are painting, playing card games, and learning to sew! She dreams of traveling,
and hopes one day to go on a cruise. Her greatest wish has always been to participate in a fashion show. Valerie believes that she is beautiful and so are you!

Be a Model

Models must be ages 7 and up, and be diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability.

Friday, April 5th, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.*
The photographer suggests solid color tops and avoiding white.
There will not be hair and makeup at the shoot, so please arrive ready.
*Sign-ups for headshots will be completed at the March 14th Parent Informational Meeting.
